Join The Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign and the League of Conservation Voters on November 21st from 7:00 to 8:30 at Hanover's Howe Library for a screening of two short documentaries: ‘The Refuge' and 'Welcome to Gwichya Zhee.' These documentaries provide an intimate look at the Gwich'in way of life and the decades-long struggle of the Gwich’in Nation to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil and gas drilling. This will be followed by a panel featuring local environmental, community, and business actors. The panel members will speak to how drilling for oil and gas in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge will have serious negative biological, cultural, and climate impacts in both the rapidly-warming Arctic and globally. Panelists’ names are to be announced in the coming weeks- stay tuned! The Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign will speak about how its environmental efforts directly tie into standing with the Gwich'in Nation to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil and gas drilling and how Upper Valley residents can help with these efforts: no distance is too far when opposing oil and gas drilling in our wildernesses The Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign will also be facilitating a social media station where attendees can tag the oil and gas corporations who are going to purchase land in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and increase the groundswell of consumer pressure on these corporations. Last, but certainly not least, even if you can’t make it, please share this invite with friends and family!
