NOW ACCEPTING FALL 2020 ENROLLMENT Click here to download a PDF of the classes Art After School with Miss Lani Preschool Morning Art with Miss Lani —————————————— Tuesdays: 3:00-5:15 pm • Ages: 5, 6, 7 Designed in a personal manner for young artists – this is a lively class for children to “dive” into color. Mixing new colors is part of the fun and intrigue of painting. Blending applies to the scientifically minded child because the results are predictable. The mixing process is like a lab experiment. Blending also appeals to the very active young artist because the results are dramatic and immediate. Part of the delight of painting seems to occur because blending color is always a bit magical. Children gain an appreciation of subtle color differences and associations. Basic understandings of how to make a color darker, lighter or duller and understanding about what colors clash or harmonize come from painting and mixing too. This is a wonderful offering with a great following. George Seurat’s use of light in his paintings, his method known as pointillism in which he broke down the colors he perceived in nature into tiny dots or brush strokes of complementary pure hues will be viewed. Colors are recombined in the eyes of each youth. George Seurat’s Women with a Monkey is in a collection nearby and we hope to enjoy studying his beautiful works. —————————————— Wednesdays: 2:00-5:00 pm • Ages: 6, 7, 8, 9 The youth artists chant “S’more love for animals”. From Mount Denali in Alaska to the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific, we shall continue to paint the resilient animals, their habitats and capture “their roars” for our help to protect the abundance of all animal species, all over the world! Jane Goodall’s advocacy guides us. Her life’s work with animals continues to inspire us to protect our natural world! We must! Miss Lani believes in our youth artist’s “artistic communion” concerning animals. This ongoing connection in this our “Wonder of Animals” course is a coming together and the art work concerning animals helps to create something of an extraordinary awareness! —————————————— Thursdays: 3:15-5:30 pm • Ages: 8, 9, 10, 11 We shall focus on selections of paintings currently held at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. We will emphasize the extraordinary French School and School of Paris late 19th and early 20th century artists who helped redefine Modernism and a new culture of art. —————————————— Fridays: 3:15-5:30 pm • Ages: 9, 10, 11, 12 Using watercolors, acrylics and oils, artists will engage in playful paintings exercises to extend and enhance their skills. Experimental techniques to transport images from the young artist’s imagination onto a canvas will be actualized. We will encourage reaching – creating – exceeding our grasp. Advanced students will be open to mystery. Not everything has sharp lines: Innovation will be encouraged!! —————————————— Fridays: 9:30-12:00 • Ages: 3, 4, 5 We shall continue our special focus ~ To branch out even more from our autumn’s success, we shall incorporate new dimensions highlighting winter. We shall provide opportunity for our young artists to develop even greater self- confidence. Self-expression is exhilarating. Art is in our heARTs. There is strength in small details. Advanced Class: Dear Parents and Grandparents, When an environ is technologically free and not computer graphic integrated, like our program in the Children's Art Studio. I have learned and wish to share that imperfection comes when one relies solely in the eyes, hands and brain of creative endeavors. A kind of humanity evolves the craftsmanship of each child's hand is related to his/her art making. We believe that each piece created by each young artist will be different. With perfection, everything is finished and therefore leaves no space for imagination. Our children say, rather, I am complete for today for tomorrow is another day of art. I will never be done. There exists a creative force, I believe, which seeks out its own way in each child. We are passionate about what we are doing here at our Children's Art Studio Norwich. Do join me and our beautiful art people... Come and learn from the company of children. Keep alive your playfulness, your imagination. It is what we know!
