SUMMARY:MUUV: Learn to Curl
DESCRIPTION:A few things to note about your upcoming Curling Class:\n\n\n\nUpper Valley Curling is looking forward to seeing you at the Learn to Curl this Wednesday. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to sign in.\n\nThe club will provide instruction and all of the equipment needed to curl. You should bring:\n\n Wear warm clothing that is easy to move in.\n Shoes with non-skid soles to change into before going on the ice. Sneakers or boots with a good grip are fine\, just clean all loose dirt of the soles beforehand.\n You may want a hat and gloves\, the arena can be cold.\n You are welcome to bring a water bottle (plastic or metal) on the ice\n\nParticipants will start with an off-ice introduction to the concepts and rules of the game and then move onto the ice for hands-on instruction and a short game. If you have any questions\, please email uppervalleycurling@gmail.com \n\n\n\nDid you watch the American men's curling team win gold at the last Winter Olympics? Did you think that it looked like a fun game? Here is your chance to learn all about curling and to try your hand at the game. Curling is an ancient game that began in Scotland several hundred years ago\, and is now played in many countries\, most notably Canada and the U.S. It is a game of skill that most people can pick up quickly\, but it takes years to master. Curlers often play into their 80's using adaptive equipment and techniques\, and many players pick up the game while they are in their 60's. The great part is that you can have fun and enjoy playing at any skill level.\n\n\n\nCoached by experienced members of the Upper Valley Curling Club\, you will learn the basics of delivery\, sweeping\, and strategy. You must have good balance and some flexibility and strength\, but do not think that Olympic players represent the average curler! Your lead instructor will be an OSHER@Dartmouth member and student\, and a dedicated curler. The club supplies all equipment\; you need to have warm clothing and shoes with non-skid soles. In a two-hour session there will be one break to warm up. The class will be held mostly on the ice in the Wendell A. Barwood ice arena in White River Junction.\n\nCOVID-19 Guidelines for Curling:\n\n\n Masks are required in the building.\n Curlers and learn to curl participants must provide proof of vaccination. \n For players\, when arriving\, if you need to change\, please head directly to the locker room. As soon as you are ready\, proceed to the rink to help set up. Locker rooms will be available no sooner than 15 minutes before our scheduled start time (e.g. available at 5:15 PM when we are curling from 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM).\n Spectators should proceed directly to the bleachers. \n Please stay home if you feel sick. Do not enter the building if you are experiencing any of the following: Fever\, Cough\, Shortness of Breath\, Difficulty Breathing\, Chills\, Muscle Pain\, Headache\, Sore throat\, New loss of taste or smell.
