DESCRIPTION:Talk About Town" 3-Part series with David Briggs \n\nDavid Briggs was born into and raised in White River Junction. He worked on a dairy farm and in the family business of Briggs Ltd a men's clothing and sporting goods shop. Upon graduation from Hartford High School he attended Norwich University. He obtained his degree in Civil Engineering from Norwich and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He became a registered Professional Civil Engineer which led him from Quechee Lakers to private practice in Vermont and then in St. Paul Minnesota.\n\n \n\nFollowing his family purchase of the Gates Block in WRJ he eventually took over the adjacent Hotel Coolidge Block where he has been the General Manager and Innkeeper for 36 years. In this role he advocated for the creative economy ethos and founded River City Arts which with the Briggs Family developed the Briggs Opera House as the precursor to Northern Stage. He raised three sons in the Upper valley.\n\n \n\nMost recently he developed the Newberry Market and has served as the interim operator of the Briggs Opera House in confirming its role as a community arts center. He is a White River Rotarian and his presently forming Briggs Opera House\, Inc. a Vermont non-profit.
